Naina Devi Temple

A well known Shakti Peeths of Hindu religion, Naini Devi Temple is sacred place of great devotion in Nainital. Nal Damyanti Taal

Nal Damyanti Tal is a placid lake in the Kumaon region which is revered by the local populace. This pristine lake is named after the Hindu mythological characters, King Nal and his beautiful wife Damayanti. The Nal Damyanti Tal is situated in the proximity of the famous Bhimtal Lake of Nainital district.

Hidimba Parvat

Hidimba Parvat is a lush green terrain located at a favorable distance of 5 km from Bhimtal. The hillock has been named after a demon called Hidimba, the wife of Bheema one of the Pandava brothers from the famous mythological tale called Mahabharata. This hill is also a home to Vanbkhandi Maharaj, who is a monk and an environmentalist. He has made a shelter called as Vankahdi Ashram for the conservation of the wild animals residing on the Hidimba Parvat.

Bhimtal Aquarium

Bhimtal Lake has an island located within it, which once had a restaurant. However, the restaurant was closed down due to pollution issues and an aquarium was created in its place by the Nainital Lake Development Authority. The aquarium is now home to fishes brought from countries like China, South Africa and Mexico. It is one of the attractions at Bhimtal.

Butterfly Research Centre

The Butterfly Research Centre is located on a hillock near the Bhimtal Lake and houses the fourth largest butterfly and moth reference collection in India. Of the approximately 1300 species of butterflies to be found in India, Bhimtal alone has around 240 species. The museum has some unbelievably beautiful collection of butterflies, moths, beetles, spiders and other insects.

Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple

Named after the powerful Mahabharata character Bhim, Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple is situated at Bhimtal. According to the Skandpurana, once upon a time Bheem travelled to Himalayas all by himself. After visiting the nearby temples, Bheem started climbing the mountain. Suddenly a divine voice from the sky tells him that if he wishes his name to be remembered for generations, he should erect a Shiva temple out of devotion.

Karkotaka Temple

Named after a mythical cobra, Karkotaka hills are quite well known for the Nag Temple and are visited by thousands of pilgrims who come here to worship the serpent god, Nag Karkotaka Maharaja on the event of Rishi Panchami. It is believed that the temple with the serpent god protects the villagers from snake bites. This is one of the famous nag temples situated in Uttarakhand region.

Victoria Dam

Victoria dam is located at one end of Bhimtal Lake and has terraced flower gardens that are placed on either side of the dam. A 17th century historic Bhimeshwar temple located next to the dam attracts hordes of people during festival time. The dam, which is around 40 feet high, offers scenic views of the surroundings and lures the tourists with its wild flowers.

Hanuman Garhi

The temple holds great mythological significance as it was built by Neem Karoli Baba who was a famous saint during the 1950s. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman who is believed to be the epitome of strength, loyalty and dedication. Lord Hanuman devoted his entire life in the service of his mentor and idol, Lord Rama. The temple has a huge statue of Lord Hanuman who is believed to be protecting and guarding the area and locals. A golden umbrella is also installed overhead the statue.
